Mr. Brinda Somanchi

Mr. Somanchi is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement (arthroplasty) surgery, as well as arthroscopic surgery of the knee for conditions like meniscal tears. With expertise in managing painful hip and knee conditions such as osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendonitis, he is dedicated to providing patient-centred care based on the best available clinical evidence.
Having completed his post-graduate training and obtained MS(Orth) from India’s premier medical institute (PGI, Chandigarh), Mr. Somanchi furthered his training in the UK, obtaining FRCS (Tr & Orth). He honed his skills in hip and knee arthroplasty through fellowships at Maidstone Hospital and Royal
Derby Hospital. His consultant career began at Royal Derby Hospital before he settled in Manchester as a full-time Consultant at Tameside General Hospital.
Mr. Somanchi is recognised as a high-volume hip and knee replacement surgeon, handling various surgical complexities and consistently delivering excellent outcomes. He emphasises patient-centred care and strives to improve care standards by monitoring surgical outcomes through regular audits. Utilising techniques like enhanced recovery and soft tissue handling, he aims to reduce hospital stay lengths and enhance patient outcomes.
As the Clinical Lead for the National Joint Registry (NJR) data quality improvement program at Tameside General Hospital, Mr. Somanchi maintains a fantastic track record of clinical outcomes on the joint registry. He is deeply committed to teaching and training, staying updated through regular attendance at national and international courses and conferences. Mr. Somanchi has publications in renowned orthopaedic journals and has done presentations at various scientific conferences.
He holds memberships with professional bodies including the General Medical Council (GMC), British Association of Day Surgery (BADS), Information Commissioner (ICO), and Medical Protection Society (MPS).
